Jean-François Chamberlan started studying the violin from the age of 10 and obtained his diplomas in violin and chamber music from the Ghent Royal Conservatoire.

A winner of the Dexia AxionClassic Competition for violin and chamber music, a student of Arthur Grumiaux for four years, he joined the Royal Orchestra of Wallonia, at the time conducted by Philip Hirschhorn.

He has performed as a soloist under the baton of eminent conductors such as Georges Octors, Jan Corazolla, Rudolf Werthen, Antonio de Almeida, Roberto Benzi, Jean-Pierre Wallez, Jean-François Paillard, Rudolf Barshaï…

He is also endeavoring to get the public to discover the wealth of contemporary composers and performs many contemporary works (Fafchamps, Lysight, Preudhomme…).

Jean-François Chamberlan teaches violin and chamber music at the Institut supérieur de Musique et de Pédagogie (IMEP) in Namur.
