The new challenge I share with the musicians is to turn
this ensemble into an orchestra with an increasingly
international career, both on the world stage and in
recordings. To do this we are establishing particular
ways of working with our music.
My role, and a very demanding one at that, is to steer
this new order, a kind of perestroika, and be its musical
guide so that this new desire flourishes naturally and
as quickly as possible into European musical life.
The Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie represents
a musical tradition going back several decades. It has
accomplished everything it has set out to do magnificently,
using its talent to bring joy to a great many audiences.
Taking this orchestra to an international dimension means
by necessity developing its repertoire, notably by placing
an emphasis on the notion of adapting to whatever the particular
requirements happen to be. In that way, the orchestra will
be exploring a vast panorama of music, from small chamber
music ensembles all the way to an expanded orchestra for
Mozart.
For the
enjoyment of an even greater number of people…
